For many families, milestone birthdays represent more than a celebration, they become part of the family’s story.

When Leandro’s family reached out to us to document his 15th birthday, their goal was simple: create meaningful portraits that could be shared with loved ones both here and in Cuba, while capturing this important chapter in his life.

What made the project unique was that neither Leandro nor his family had a strong vision for the session itself. His mother and sister described him as a quiet, reserved young man with a calm personality. Rather than beginning with locations or poses, we began by getting to know who he was and creating a customized concept around his personality and style.

Together, we developed a mood board that blended timeless beach imagery with modern fashion-inspired portraiture. The session was designed to include both formal and casual looks, allowing us to showcase different sides of his personality while creating a gallery that felt authentic to him.

One of the signature concepts featured a simple chair placed directly on the beach, transforming the natural setting into a fashion-inspired editorial environment. Dressed in a tailored black suit with a white shirt and maroon tie, Leandro immediately surprised everyone. The quiet teenager we expected quickly became confident in front of the camera, embracing direction, movement, and expression with remarkable ease.

As the session continued, his personality began to shine. We photographed him along the shoreline, in the water, and near reflective pools that created some of the most striking images of the evening. Later, after changing into more casual clothing, the session took on a completely different feel, one that resembled a lifestyle fashion campaign more than a traditional birthday portrait session.

Some of our favorite moments weren’t simply the photographs themselves, but the reactions from his mother and sister as they watched him become increasingly comfortable and confident throughout the experience. By the end of the evening, everyone was laughing, relaxed, and genuinely enjoying the process.

The final collection blended fashion-inspired imagery, natural beach portraits, and authentic moments that celebrated not only a milestone birthday but a young man stepping confidently into the next chapter of life.
